She was trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School, which included ten years of elocution lessons. She left home at age 17 and worked in a casino until she was spotted by a modelling scout on Oxford Street and signed up by Select until she was cast in Karaoke in 1996. Early on in her career, she starred several music videos, including "She's a Star" by James. Keeley first came into the public eye in the 1990s, having supporting roles in Troublemakers, Dennis Potter's Karaoke (1995), Heartbeat (1995), The Beggar Bride (1997), and as the young Diana Dors in the biopic, The Blonde Bombshell (1999). She was also the voice of Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft from 2006-2010. |
She met cartoonist, Spencer McCallum in 1995 and they married in 2001, when their son Myles was 20 months old, but their marriage lasted less than a year. They separated in 2002, but didn’t officially divorce until 2004.
From 2002-04 she appeared as Zoe Reynolds in the spy series Spooks. It was whilst working on Spooks that she met her second husband, Matthew MacFadyen, who played Tom Quinn. They married in November 2004 and their first child, Maggie, was born two months later. Their second child, son Ralph, was born in September 2006.
From 2008-2010 Keeley played Alex Drake in the Ashes to Ashes, the spin-off to hit BBC series Life on Mars. It told the story of a female police officer in service with London's Metropolitan Police, who, after being shot in 2008, inexplicably regains consciousness in 1983, having assimilated Sam Tyler's fantasies after being imprisoned in a coma. The series, broadcast in February 2008, follows her fighting to wake up from the world of 1983 so she can get back to the present day and save her daughter, Molly. She starred along with Philip Glenister who played the TV's iconic Gene Hunt and was awarded the "Best UK Television Actress Award" in 2008 by the Glamour Awards for her role.
More recently she appeared in the re-launched Upstairs, Downstairs, in which she played the leading role of Lady Agnes Holland and an adaptation of The Lady Vanishes. She is due to star in the second series of Line of Duty and new drama, The Tunnel.
Her theatre productions have included Rocket to the Moon and she is due to star in Barking in Essex with Lee Evans and Sheila Hancock at the end of the year.
