Series 10
The tenth and final series of Spooks originally aired on BBC One from 18th September 2011 to 23rd October 2011. It comprised 6 episodes.
Episode 1
Air Date: Sunday 18th September 2011
Synopsis: Two months after trading Albany, a state secret, for Ruth, Harry is on gardening leave until a tribunal can determine his future with MI5. However Home Secretary William Towers arranges for Harry to return on a provisional basis until its conclusion. Harry learns that Towers has smuggled his Russian opposite, Ilya Gavrik, into the country to propose a strategic partnership between Russia and the United Kingdom without the knowledge of the United States government. It has also emerged that a friend of Harry's, Max Witt, was murdered because he knew somebody is posing as Harry using his old coded messages from the Cold War; the imposter made contact with Elena, Gavrik's wife, and Harry's former asset. New Section D Chief Erin Watts manages to stop an assassination against Minister Gavrik during a function, killing the assassin in the process. Despite this, the assassin's handlers deem the mission a success. Later, Harry reveals to Ruth that he and Elena were lovers, and that FSB officer Sasha Gavrik is their son.
Episode 2

Synopsis: A laptop containing the identities of five high level assets is stolen when Calum Reed is attacked. Several attempts to find the thieves are unsuccessful as they are highly resourceful. The identity of the first asset is later leaked to the Internet and is found apparently murdered by his Iranian targets. Furthermore another one of the assets is Martha Ford, who is working for one of Gavrik's companies. When her name is leaked next, Erin rescues her and brings her to a safe house. However under pressure from Gavrik, Harry orders Erin to break all ties with her. Meanwhile, after Harry meets with Elena to warn her of the imposter, he asks Ruth to look up CIA deputy director and Cold War colleague Jim Coaver, believing he is the imposter. After returning home Tariq discovers the identity of one of the muggers. He quickly realises they are on to him, and tries to return to Thames House. On his way he is injected with poison, and collapses and dies upon arrival.
Episode 3
Air Date: Sunday 2nd October 2011
Synopsis: Section D learns that known anarchist Johnny Grier is in London, and is believed to be making a dirty bomb after trace amounts of radioactive material was detected at Heathrow Airport. To get close to Grier, Dimitri Levendis (is assigned to honeytrap his sister, Natalie, via Internet dating. Section D follows him to a cell, who plans to attack the Velanon Group, a financial company who made millions from a nuclear disaster. When Dimitri confronts him, Grier reveals he thought he was smuggling heroin to the country, and is unaware of the bomb plot. After he reluctantly agrees to help, the team find that Grier has double crossed them so that he could assassinate Velanon's CEO with radioactive powder; Dimitri fails to stop him, and the building is evacuated. Meanwhile, Towers offers Ruth a promotion as his security advisor. Harry's suspicion into Coaver is solidified, especially after Calum found what Tariq found before his death; one of the muggers was also present during Gavrik's assassination attempt, and is also a deniable CIA asset.
Episode 4
Air Date: Sunday 9th October 2011
Synopsis: Imprisoned Islamic extremist leader Zubier Al-Saad appoints two recently released inmates to commit a suicide attack. One of the released is Ashur Mohali, an asset from the prison who passed intelligence to Section D; he agrees to help stop the attack on the condition that his daughter be given British citizenship. However his handlers already kidnapped her to ensure the attack succeeds, and Ashur is now committed to the cause for his daughter's safety. Section D later learns that the attack will take place in Trafalgar Square. When Erin confronts him, she learns the handlers also have her daughter, Rosie. If the attack fails, she will die; Dimitri is able to kill the handler as Ashur is killed by CO19 and returns Rosie to her mother. Once Rosie is asleep, Dimitri and Erin embrace. Meanwhile, Harry must find incontrovertible proof against Coaver. He and Ruth use Elena and Sasha as bait to get to Coaver, but find the mysterious woman instead. However, they find evidence that Coaver was linked. Later, Ruth tells Harry about the offer from Towers; he encourages her to take it, as he does not want her involved in what he plans against Coaver.
Episode 5
Air Date: Sunday 16th October 2011
Synopsis: The team kidnap Jim Coaver to interrogate him about the allegations he is posing as Harry. When he's killed by terrorists, who also launch an assassination attempt on the Home Secretary, Harry asks Ruth to steal Coaver's laptop from the American Embassy. She does so successfully but on her way to deliver it to Harry, it is intercepted by Sasha Gavrik, who when he opens it, discovers that Harry is is father. Meanwhile, the team discover that the terrorists used to work for Ilya Gavrik. At the end of the episode Harry surrenders to the CIA for extradition to the United States for his part in Coaver's death, kissing Ruth goodbye as he leaves.
Episode 6
Air Date: Sunday 23rd October 2011
Synopsis: As Harry is prepared for extradition the team, must get him out of custody. Meanwhile, as the deal is signed between Russia and the UK Elena Gavrik tells Ruth she has information Harry must hear. Harry and Elena, along with Erin, Calum, Dimitri, Ruth and Sasha , go to a disused MI5 safehouse, where Elena informs Harry of a Russia ultra-nationalist plot to crash a plane in London. As Illya arrives Harry realises Elena is a double agent, she tells him that although he thought he had recruited her in Moscow, she had in fact recruited him as she was already working for the KGB, and that Sasha was not Harry's son, but Illya's. As Erin and Dmitiri find information on the terrorist and Elena tells Harry apparently everything she knows about the plot, Towers tells Harry he is preparing to have the plane shot down. However, it soon comes to light that the plane may not have been hijacked, and the terrorists are trying to have the plane shot down as an excuse to go to war. Harry threatens to shoot Sasha unless Elena tells him everything she knows, and he eventually decides not to have the plane shot down. However, he needs Illya, a government official, to confirm that the plane has not been hijacked. Ilya agrees but only if he can be in a locked room with Elena, alone. Ruth convinces Harry to agree and the fighter planes are called off. Ilya then kills Elena whilst Sasha, watches helplessly from behind a two way mirror. Ruth asks Harry to leave the service with her and move to the house she revelaed she had bought in the last episode. He agrees just as Sasha turns up armed with a shard of glass. Sasha tries to stab Harry, believing him responsible for his mother's death but Ruth steps in front of him and it is she who is stabbed. Dmitiri shoots Sasha and the team try helplessly to save Ruth's life. But it's no use; Ruth dies in Harry's arms, leaving him distraught.Some time later, Harry views the the house Ruth had bought before her death, but hearing her voice as he walks through, he leaves unable to cope. Towers tells him he he doesn't expect him to return to work, but Harry informs Towers that the ringleader of the Nationalists is being taken care of by a private firm, and it is revealed that Tom Quinn has been sent to assassinate him. Harry then visits a memorial to those officers who have died whilst working, with their names written on a large upright piece of glass. Among the names are Danny, Fiona, Colin, Zaf, Adam, Ben, Jo, Ros, Tariq and finally Ruth's, who's name Harry looks at for some time. Harry then returns to The Grid, where Erin, Calum and Dmitri are working. He sits in his office, where Dmitri attempt to consul him, only to be stopped by Erin. As Harry sits at his desk reflecting on recent and not-so-recent events his phone rings. He answers with the final line of the series: "Harry Pearce".
