Her father Nick Raison is a jazz and cocktail pianist and artist, while her mother Caroline Raison read the news for Anglia Television. She has two brothers and two sisters. Her parents separated when she was five years old, and her father remarried and lives on the Suffolk coast. Throughout her formative years, Miranda attended several boarding schools including Gresham's School and Stowe School, before beginning her training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Her early TV credits include Perfect Strangers and The Private Life of Samuel Pepys but she really came to the attention of the TV audience when she was cast in the fourth series of Spooks as MI-5 agent Joanna (Jo) Portman in 2005. She starred in the show until 2009, leaving part way through the eighth series. |
She married Spooks co-star, Raza Jaffrey, in Aldeburgh, shortly after he left the show in 2007. Also in 2007 she appeared in two episodes of Doctor Who (Daleks in Manhattan and Evolution of the Daleks), as Tallulah, a show girl, whose opening scene was on stage dancing and singing to a musical number. Miranda’s father played the piano background as part of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
In 2010, Miranda starred in ITV comedy drama Married Single Other as a model called Abbey. It was whilst filming for this role that she met Ralf Little, whom she ended her marriage with Raza to be with. (Their divorce was finalised in 2012.)
She played the title role in Anne Boleyn, a new play by Spooks writer Howard Brenton,which premiered at Shakespeare's Globe on July 24, 2010, to high critical acclaim.
In 2011 she returned to the BBC1 in Sugartown, a three part comedy/drama, aired on BBC1, and again in crime comedy-drama Death in Paradise. Also in 2011 she played the role of Isolde in the fourth series of the BBC drama Merlin, which began airing in the October. Her film roles have included parts in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, Match Point, Land of the Blind and My Week with Marilyn.
Miranda starred alongside Toby Stephens in Vexed in 2012 and is currently filming for the third series of Silk for BBC, in which she will be reunited with Spooks co-star Rupert Penry-Jones.
Miranda is a keen golfer and is a member of Aldeburgh Golf Club.

I'm fiercely competitive. It's my obsession, I've got to know the course at Aldeburgh and I really love it; I hope I'll still be as keen in a few years' time.
She has recently ended her four year relatinoship with Ralf Little and moved out of his North London flat and back to her pink cottage in Suffolk.
