He is the son of TV director John Glenister and the older brother of Life on Mars star Philip Glenister. He made his first television appearance in the sitcom Sink or Swim in 1980. He has also appeared in shows such as Soldier Soldier, Doctor Who (in the serial The Caves of Androzani, opposite his Sink or Swim co-star Peter Davison), Only Fools and Horses (as Myles the millionaire garden centre owner and chairman of the SWANS commitee) and A Touch of Frost, George Gently and Spartacus. He took up a regular, recurring role in Spooks in 2002, cast as Nicolas Blake, the fictional Home Secretary. |
He is probably best known for his starring role in the BBC drama Hustle. He played Ash Morgan, a high-level con-man, between 2004 and 2011. Robert was the only actor who from the show to appear in every episode of the eight series.
