Sam Buxton
Date of Birth: Unknown
First episode: Series 2, Episode 1 Last episode: Series 3, Episode 10 Job: Administrative Officer Status: Alive (reassigned) Portrayed by: Shauna Macdonald Sam arrives on the grid straight from training college and straight into the thick of the action. It isn't always easy for her, but she handles the pressure well. She knows she is the least experienced person on the Grid, and she is keen to prove herself up to the job. Sam is confident, sharp and quick to pick up the rigours of being a Spook. There is plenty about her to impress the others in the office. However, every now and again she lacks the critical judgement needed to be the perfect MI5 officer. |
One of these occasions involves her falling for ex-officer Tessa Phillips’ ploy to spy on Section D. Tessa recruits Sam in training, posing as ‘Jane’ and then activates her when it suits her best. Sam’s actions inadvertently cause the death of an asset.
In series 3, Harry asks Sam to keep an eye on Ruth when she begins to fall for one of the people they were watching. She encourages Ruth in her efforts to meet the man, urging her to go to lunch with him and arranging for her to go to, and helping her get ready for, a scratch requiem. It is unclear whether she does so with Harry’s authorisation or not.
She has a brief flirtation with Danny, but things fizzle out as he falls further in love with Zoe. They remain close friends however and she is distraught by his death to the point of requiring sedation. She is reassigned to GCHQ between series 3 and 4.
