This dream becomes a step closer to when Harry recruits Adam to help find Tom Quinn at the beginning of series 3 and then keeps him on |
Fiona transfers to MI5 later on in Series 3 and they are happily living and working together. This perfect life isn't to be, however, as Fiona, is shot while trying to avenge her previous life in Syria and dies in Adam's arms. Adam goes into denial at first, not even telling Wes or Fiona’s parents of her death. But he then realises focussing on his work is the best way for him to handle his loss. After Fiona’s death Adam suffers from several mental breakdowns, one of which jeopardises his life as he is on operation at the time. During this begins a relationship with Wes’ nanny but it doesn’t last very long.
In series 6, recovered from his breakdown he begins seeing Ana Bakhshi , the wife of Iranian Special Consul. Ana later realises she is pregnant; whether Adam or her husband is the father of her child is never resolved, as she has to leave the country for her own safety. Halfway through the series Adam is mugged, and his assailant is seriously injured during their struggle. The man, who is identified as a journalist, later dies, and Adam is wanted for murder. It is later revealed that the man was no journalist; Adam was set up, to prevent his stopping a deal that would have allowed Iran to become a nuclear power. He has a brief affair with Ros Myers, and later fakes her death to protect her from CIA retaliation after it is exposed that she has worked with the anti-American shadow organisation Yalta.
After discovering that Al-Qaeda had planted a bomb in a car during a Remembrance Sunday service, Adam drives the vehicle to some disused land. Just as he steps out of the car, the bomb explodes, and Adam takes the full brunt of its force. Adam is killed and Wes is left an orphan. It is later revealed that FSB head-of-operations in London, Arkady Kachimov, withheld his knowledge of the bomb plot. Harry kills him in revenge.
