Ros Myers
Date of Birth: 09.01.1973
First episode: Series 5, Episode 1 Last episode: Series 8, Episode 8 Job: Senior Intelligence Analyst Status: Deceased (explosion) Portrayed by: Hermione Norris Ros has the Secret Service in her blood. Her father is a business mogul with high-ranking political links. The world of politics and espionage is all she knows. And it’s all she wants to know. She is married to her job, utterly uncompromising, ruthless and will do anything for what she believes to be the 'greater good'. She joins MI6 after graduating from Oxford University with a first in Arabic. She is introduced at the beginning of series 5 as an officer working for high ranking MI6 officer Michael Collingwood. Later it becomes apparent that Collingwood is plotting a coup and that it is being funded by Ros’ father, Jocelyn. Ros manages to persuade him to pull the plug on plot, but not before a car-bomb has nearly assassinated the home secretary and left Juliet Shaw paralysed. |
After this operation Adam offers her a promotion to Section D which she accepts. She is hopeful that Harry will be able to persuade the government to go easy on her father and to give him a reduced sentence, but he is instead given 20 years. This angers Ros and leads her to try and spite Harry by reporting Ruth for interfering with a police investigation. This goes further than Ros expects, as by doing so she unwittingly assists Oliver Mace in framing Ruth for murder, leading to her exile.
In the sixth series, as well as developing a romantic relationship with Adam, Ros became a spy for Yalta, a shadowy international group of double agents and senior government officials who work together in an attempt to thwart American dominance in world politics. In the end Ros sees sense and helps Section D to stop their planned attack on the American defence network. Though Adam and Malcolm stop the attack, Yalta’s leader, revealed as former MI5 agent Juliet Shaw, injects Ros with poison, killing her. During her funeral however, Adam revives her, revealing he switched the poison with a sedative in order to fake her death. Ros leaves at the end of the episode with a new identity.
She returns in series 7, which takes place 6 months after the end of series 6, working in Russia, gathering intelligence about a planned attack on Britain. The attack is due to take place on Remembrance Sunday and Adam finds the bomb, but it explodes before he can escape and he is killed before he can reunite with Ros. After Adam’s death Harry promotes Ros to section chief. Shaken by Adam’s death, she and Harry take revenge on the person responsible; killing him.
In series 8, following a hostage situation, Ros kills a terrorist before he can detonate a bomb. However, because Jo Portman is restraining the terrorist, the bullet passes through him and enters her chest as well, killing her. Her part in Jo’s death severely effects Ros. In the series 8 finale a bomb is planted in a hotel intending to kill Pakistani President Mudasser to provoke a full-scale conflict between India and Pakistan. Lucas and Ros are tasked with evacuating the building and find the Home Secretary, Andrew Lawrence and Mudasser paralysed on the upper floors. As Lucas rescues Mudasser, Ros struggles to pull Lawrence to safety and they are still inside when the hotel explodes, resulting in both their deaths.
Her funeral takes place in the first episode of Series 9, with Ruth giving a reading in the service before revealing to Harry that Nicholas Blake had been behind the bombing. Harry travels to his home in Scotland to take revenge for Ros' death; killing him by poisoning his whiskey.
