Tom Quinn
Date of Birth: 27.08.1971
First episode: Series 1, Episode 1 Last episode: Series 10, Episode 6 Job: Section Chief Status: Alive (decomissioned) Portrayed by: Matthew MacFadyen Tom Quinn joined Section D in 1996, where he eventually became Head of Section D following the imprisonment of predecessor Lucas North during an operation in Russia. Tom is serious, focussed and popular with the team he leads. Deeply intelligent and with impeccable instincts, Tom's job is everything to him and always came first. While this makes him an excellent Spook, it doesn't make him such a perfect boyfriend, as his girlfriend Ellie quickly finds out in. If he isn't out on missions that put his own life in danger, he is back home, putting his family at risk. |
After his relationship with Ellie fails, romance blossoms between him and CIA liaison officer Christine Dale, much to Harry Pearce's displeasure. Tom's devotion to Christine means his loyalties are called into question in the final episode of series two when he tries to convince Harry, Zoe and Danny that he's been set-up in an assassination plot. Unable to persuade any of the team of his innocence, Tom feels cornered as Harry threatens to call in back-up. He shoot Harry and runs.
Tom eventually manages to prove his innocence. He is exonerated of any wrong-doing and returns to the Service. However, it isn't to be for long. Tom's moral questioning of his job cause a massive crisis of confidence. He jeopardises an important mission and Harry is forced to de-commission him. His career at MI5 is now over and he is no longer a Spook.
Following his decommission from Section D, Tom marries Christine and becomes a freelance security specialist. He is briefly seen again in the final ever episode. He is engaged by Harry to track down and assassinate Elena Gavrik's Russian Nationalist colleagues; for their part in the actions that lead to Ruth Evershed's death.
